
About me
Sam White has 25 years experience navigating the most senior levels of Government, Politics and Finance.
Sam recently helped Keir Starmer rebuild the Labour Party in Opposition; first as Keir’s Senior Adviser on strategy during the Covid pandemic, then as his Chief of Staff.
He was an adviser to both the Blair and Brown Governments, working across Whitehall and Parliament; including as Chancellor Alistair Darling’s longest serving adviser in the Treasury during the Global Financial Crisis.
During a decade working as a senior executive for the UK FTSE insurer Aviva plc, Sam supported the Board and Exco on a wide range of issues, from expanding into new markets, to managing the most senior global stakeholders and improving with the sustainability of billions of pounds of assets under management.
Aviva’s ‘2040 Net Zero’ plan was authored by Sam and remains the benchmark for the financial services industry in breadth, detail and commitments.
His career has taken him to working with a range of governments around the world and international bodies including the UN, EU, G20.
Sam’s passions are climate sustainability, fairer modern workplaces and solving thorny public policy challenges. He has previously been on the boards of organisations such as the Living Wage Foundation Advisory Board, Business in the Community (BITC)’s Gender Equality Board ad the Confederation of British Industry (CBI)’s Climate and Energy Board and the UN Net Zero Asset Owner’s Alliance. He also was a co-founder of the Aviva Foundation and Hounslow Community Foodbox. He is currently an advisory board member of the Social Market Foundation (SMF).
Sam is currently Chair of Foundations, the What Works Centre for Children and Families and on a number of advisory boards.
He regularly writes and appears on media including BBC, Sky, Channel 4 and a range of podcasts such as the NewsAgents.
